Hi Danie

I cam across your wonderful family tree site and wondered if you could prehaps help me in my search for one of my ancestors on the dup side.

My Ouma's (Aletta Sophia Marais's) mother was one Johanna Lodewika Francina du plessis (Phillipstown) and a note 9 January 1899 ( not sure if this is her death date). My Ouma had a pic in her room of we think, her grandparents which on the back is written Andries Du plessis born 26 August 1830 or 1836 (not clear) and Sophia Johanna Swanepoel born ? 23/12/1840 (back of pic). a very stern pic that used to frighten us terribly as children I might add!!

I have, of course all the decentants of Johanna L.Francina dup/Marais as she was married to Ernest Jacobus Petrus Marais whose father owned the farm Krapfontein in the Hanover district.

I am so keen to trace the dear Johanna L. Francina dup family back from there but when i tried to get info from a geni person called Hendrik du plessis he said the above are not in the du plessis book?

I see you have a swanepoel lady on your tree and that she was married to a Lodewikus du plessis and wonder if this is the correct person?

Would love more info if you think that there is any chance that this could be them.

I have just started this search and these dups are on my mum's side and blow me down if my dad's side also has dups - but i have sorted them out - Jean Louis (b2) . I would love to see were my mum and dad actually joined up somewere along the line it looks like and would so like to find that link.

Hallo Carol

Sorry only back today - fishing trip to Velddrif, and before you ask - yes, we caught some fish and yes, my wife is very very pleased.

Thanks for your mail, it is always great to hear from people doing the same crazy thing. I have updated my tree with your info and attached a pedigree chart of what you have sent me, hope it is correct.

I have been busy with the DUP's for close on 3 years now and still I have them jumping at me from nowhere. (No distracting TV those days). There are so many unlinked groups / individuals in my tree is has become scary and now Andries is another one. One day hopefully I will have them all connected

The tree you see on the net is what I have except my added / updated stuff which I upload at the end of each month. So I can't help you now but I will see what I can do.

It will be great if you could share whatever you have on the DUP"s. Scanned pictures of all the stern face family will also be very nice.
